(Laurel, Ind.) – A woman was arrested after police were called to make a welfare check on her in the parking lot of a Laurel liquor store.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Baker’s Liquor Store at around 1:52 a.m. They encountered Shirley J. Shoemaker, 45, of Laurel.

While speaking with Shoemaker, the deputies began to suspect she was under the influence of a controlled substance. They allegedly soon discovered in her possession a bag containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

Shoemaker was transported by Brookville EMS #2 to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville for medical evaluation.  After being medically cleared by doctors, Shoemaker was taken into custody and lodged in the Franklin County Security Center in lieu of $5,000 cash/surety bond.

She is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine (level 6 felony) and Possession of Paraphernalia (class A misdemeanor).

If convicted of a level 6 felony, Shoemaker could face up to 2 ½ years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
