Manchester Elementary School to Close

The South Dearborn School Board voted 6-1 on Tuesday night to close the school.

(Manchester, Ind.) - Manchester Elementary School is closing.

The South Dearborn School Board voted 6-1 at Tuesday's meeting to officially close the school.

Last week, Superintendent Ron Ross told Eagle Country 99.3 that declining enrollment and rising operating costs were the primary reasons for discussing the school closure.

Manchester Elementary School currently serves 140 students when it was designed to serve 400. By closing the school, the corporation will save approximately $1 million.

Several community members spoke during the public comment portion of the board meeting with one community member asking the board to wait a year to vote on closing the school.

This is the second time a South Dearborn School has closed in the past five years. Moores Hill Elementary School closed in 2021.

All current teachers and staff have been promised a position within the corporation.

In addition, rumors that Dillsboro Elementary School will close have been deemed false by Superintendent Ross.
