(Jennings County, Ind.) - On Wednesday, deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of County Road 700 West near County Road 400 South in reference to a vehicle that was stranded in the water with a male subject trapped inside.

Dispatch advised that the water was rising and that the male subject sounded like he was gasping for air. Upon arrival, Jennings County Sheriff's Office personnel, with the help of North Vernon Police, assessed the scene and made a quick decision to enter the water.

Deputies were driven approximately halfway out by a volunteer firefighter and then walked the rest of the way in approximately waist high water that was flowing rapidly. When they arrived at the vehicle, Deputies made contact with the male occupant, who had water up to his neck.

They were able to get the back hatch of the car open and then pull the male subject out to safety.

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office reminds motorists to never drive through high water. Violators will be cited.
