(Madison, Ind.) - The Milton-Madison Bridge will be shut down for five days so crews can make room for the new bridge.
The bridge connecting Indiana and Kentucky across the Ohio River will be closed April 25 through 29 as the contractor works around the clock to remove the existing bridge approaches. Temporary ramps will also be connected on both sides of the river.
Officials say shifting traffic to those ramps is the first steps to try to keep traffic moving during construction.
During the closure, a ferry will be provided for transporting emergency services.
Drivers will detour to the Markland Locks and Dam Bridge or Louisville.
The $103 million bridge project began in 2010 and was scheduled to be completed later this year, however, more than 100 construction days have been stopped by high water on the Ohio River. The new bridge is now set to be complete in 2013.
