(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - One of Dearborn County’s last living World War II veterans will celebrate a milestone birthday on Thursday.
Tom Cook will turn 100 on May 30.
The Lawrenceburg native entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the European Theater with the 103rd Infantry Division in England, France, and Germany before he was discharged in 1945.
During his military career, Cook was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars for the Rhineland and Ardennes-Alsace Campaigns, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
After being discharged, Cook worked at Alton Box in Aurora and then took a job at the American State Bank in Lawrenceburg as a teller. He would eventually rise through the ranks to serve as President.
Cook currently resides in Lawrenceburg.
He is one of six living World War II Veterans in Dearborn County, along with Clarence Cook, George Shelby, George Klopp, George Lingg, and JC Lewis.
