Local Unemployment Rates Released For May; Ohio County Best At 3.1 Percent

Three local counties saw their jobless rate rise last month.

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Three southeastern Indiana counties saw their unemployment rate rise in May, while two others held steady. 

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released May employment data for counties, cities and MSA's on Thursday.

  • Dearborn County - 3.7 percent in May 2021, 3.5 percent in April 2021, 11.3 percent in May 2020
  • Franklin County - 3.3 percent in May 2021, 3.1 percent in April 2021, 9.7 percent in May 2020
  • Ohio County - 3.1 percent in May 2021, 3.1 percent in April 2021, 14.0 percent in May 2020
  • Ripley County - 3.4 percent in May 2021, 3.0 percent in April 2021, 11.9 percent in May 2020
  • Switzerland County - 4.1 percent in May 2021, 4.1 percent in April 2021, 16.9 percent in May 2020

For Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, and Ripley counties, their jobless rates remain lower than the state average of 4.0 percent.
