Ky. Gubernatorial Candidate Backs Workplace Smoking Ban

Efforts to enact a statewide smoking ban have failed in recent years.

(Frankfort, Ky.) – Kentucky has one of the highest smoking rates in the country but workplaces in the state could soon be smoke free.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Adam Edelen has endorsed a statewide smoking ban in most workplaces, reports Local 12-WKRC.

His support of the proposal might come as a surprise to some, as Edelen is the son of a tobacco farmer. However, Kentucky has one of the highest smoking rates in the country and Edelen believes every Kentuckian should be able to breathe air free from cigarette smoke.

The smoking ban proposal would see that all enclosed workplaces, including bars and restaurants with three or more employees would be smoke free.

Some local governments have already passed workplace smoking bans, but efforts to pass a statewide law have failed in the past.
