Jerry Springer Passes Away at 79

The iconic television personality once served as Mayor of Cincinnati.

CINCINNATI - Jerry Springer died Thursday at the age of 79.

Springer is best known for hosting the tabloid talk show Jerry Springer for nearly 30 years. The show started in 1991 and ended in July of 2018.

Aside from being one of TV’s most recognized personalities, Springer had a lengthy political career that included being a political campaign adviser to Robert F. Kennedy. He also ran for Congress in 1970, prior to being elected to Cincinnati City Council in 1971.

In 1977, Springer was chosen by city council to serve one year as Mayor of Cincinnati.

He later sought the Democratic nomination for Governor of Ohio in the early 80’s. Springer also held roles as a news reporter, journalists, actor, lawyer, and producer. 

Springer reportedly passed away peacefully at his home in Chicago this morning.

He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just a few months ago.
