(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Ivy Tech Community College has honored a select group of faculty members for their work with the students in their communities.

Ivy Tech’s annual President’s Award is the highest honor given to faculty at the statewide community college. The winners of the award have been recognized across the state by nominations from students, fellow faculty members, and Ivy Tech staff.

The program recognizes one full-time faculty member at each campus for reflecting Ivy Tech’s mission. The winners receive an Ivy Tech Oscar and $1,000 professional development grant.

“The President’s Awards reflect both the commitment of the college’s faculty and the unique qualities that make Ivy Tech special,” said Dr. Sue Ellspermann, president of Ivy Tech.

The winner of the President’s Award from the Lawrenceburg Ivy Tech campus was Dr. Shyra J. Tedesco, Associate Professor and Department Chair for Life and Physical Science.

Dr. Tedesco has 28 years of experience as a cancer researcher and has been published in a variety of scientific journals.

The winner of the President’s Award from the Madison, Indiana campus was Jill Kelly-Koren, an Associate Professor of English and Program Chair of Education, Humanities, and Languages.

On the nomination letter for Kelly-Koren, one of her former students wrote, “Not only is she the greatest teacher I have ever had, but she is also one of the greatest people I have ever met.”

The winners will be formally recognized on June 21 at the annual event.
