(Batesville, Ind.) – The cherry-thing-a-lings are as popular as ever.

Customers flocked to Schmidt Bakery in Batesville over President’s Day weekend to get their hands on the coveted cherry-glazed fritters.

On Tuesday, Batesville Main Street announced on their Facebook page that Schmidt Bakery sold 145,440 thing-a-lings, or 12,120 dozen. This year's total broke the previous record of 118,000 in 2018.

“This started as a one-time promotion on a Sunday in the 1970’s and then turned into tradition. We are blessed to have the community embrace this and look forward to it every year, this is something that makes Batesville exciting,” said owner Bertie Schmidt

This year's thing-a-ling sale was accompanied by a festival hosted by the City of Batesville that included an ice skating rink.

Your next chance to enjoy a delicious cherry-thing-a-ling is February 13-18, 2020.
