(Versailles, Ind.) – Indiana State Police in Versailles are warning area residents of a phone scam.

Sgt. Stephen Wheeles says the scammers are calling people in the area and requesting personal information.

He continued that the scammers use a computer program to call, making the person receiving the call believe the call is coming from the Indiana State Police Post in Versailles.

The Indiana State Police will not randomly call individuals to obtain personal information.

If you receive such a call, offer to call the police department to verify the identity of the officer or simply hang up.
