(Greendale, Ind.) - You wouldn't be able to tell from the outside of the building, but the Half Moon Saloon is closed due to a fire.

According to Greendale Fire Chief Shannon Craig, firefighters were dispatched to the bar on Ridge Avenue on Sunday night around 10:09 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an active fire in the wall between the kitchen and bar area. Craig tells Eagle Country 99.3 there was about a dozen patrons and a father and two children in the upstairs apartment that had to be evacuated from the building.

Firefighters quickly tore into the wall and put out the flames. The fire did spread into a closet in the upstairs apartment, but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading into the attic.

After meeting with the Indiana Fire Marshal's Office on Monday morning, the preliminary cause of the fire is thought to be an electrical issue.

No injuries were reported, but the building suffered interior structural damage.

The Half Moon Saloon will be closed until further notice, and the family living in the upstairs apartment have been displaced. Craig says the father and two children have family they can live with in the meantime.

Greendale Fire was assisted at the scene by Lawrenceburg Fire and EMS, Aurora Fire, and Greendale Police.
