INDOT to Host Public Hearing for S.R. 46 Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Dearborn County

The event will include a public comment period.

(St. Leon, Ind.) – A public meeting will be held next week regarding the proposed State Road 46 bridge rehabilitation project over the Whitewater River.

INDOT will host the public hearing at the East Central Performing Arts Center on Thursday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m.

The event will provide an opportunity for the public to interact with the project team, receive updates on the project, and provide public comment.

Doors will open at 5:30 to allow attendees time to view displays and talk with project personnel prior to a presentation at 6:00.

The State Road 46 project will rehabilitate the existing bridge and the east and west roadway approaches to current INDOT and FHWA standards for load capacity and condition.

According to INDOT, the concrete deck and joints will be replaced. Other work includes PF-1 concrete rail installation, truss cleaning, and addressing other deteriorating elements.

The project aims to reset the service life of the bridge and for it to meet current standards.

The current plan is to start work in July of 2024. The work would require a full closure for approximately eight months with a 1.5-mile-long detour route utilizing U.S. 52, I-74 and State Road 1.

Cost of the project is estimated at $7.2 million.

There are several ways to follow project progress, ask questions and offer feedback.
