INDOT personnel are required by state law to remove all unauthorized signs within the state right-of-way.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) – As election day approaches, Indiana residents are being reminded that campaign signs can’t just be placed anywhere.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says campaign signs are prohibited from state right-of-way that run parallel to highways.
Intersections and interchanges should also remain sign-free.
By law, INDOT personnel are required to remove all unauthorized signs that are placed in sign-free zones.
Crews may also remove a specific sign if it presents an immediate safety risk, such as being too close to the roadway or creating a sight obstruction.
Removed signs will be taken to the nearest INDOT facility. Those signs can be claimed by the owner between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays.
