Indiana's U.S. Senators, Others Remember John McCain

Todd Young and Joe Donnelly are honoring John McCain, who died Saturday.

U.S. Senator John McCain

(Washington, D.C.) - Indiana's leaders on Capitol Hill are among many Americans remembering John McCain as an American hero.

The decorated war hero and 38-year lawmaker died Saturday at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona from an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 81.

Republican Senator Todd Young said McCain served the nation with extraordinary courage, passion, sacrifice, and integrity.

“I join with his family, his friends, our colleagues in the Senate, and all Americans in mourning the passing of one of the finest leaders our nation has produced. We can honor his life and legacy by ensuring America continues to lead from a position of strength and principle – standing up for freedom, the oppressed, the dispossessed, and the rule of law.”

Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly said on Saturday that McCain represents the very best of what makes America great.

Other Hoosiers also shared their condolences:

McCain will lie in state at the Arizona State Capitol on Wednesday, which is his birthday. He will then lie in state at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

McCain will be laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland.
