(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Indiana’s unemployment rate remained unchanged to start 2019.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the state’s jobless rate stands at 3.5 percent for January and remains lower than the national rate of 4.0 percent.
Except for October 2014, Indiana’s unemployment rate has been below the national rate for more than five years.
Indiana’s total labor force currently stands at 3.39 million, and the state’s 65.1 percent labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 63.2 percent.
Among neighboring states, Indiana had the lowest unemployment rate in January. Michigan had the next best jobless rate at 4.0 percent, followed by Kentucky at 4.2 percent, Illinois at 4.3 percent and Ohio at 4.7 percent.
January employment data for Indiana counties, cities and MSA’s will be available Tuesday.
