INDIANAPOLIS – It has only been a little over three years since sports betting began in Indiana.

In November, Indiana sports betting reached a big milestone, surpassing $10 billion in bets.

That number has led to over $800 million worth of revenue for sportsbooks and nearly $80 million worth of taxes for the state of Indiana.

With the success of Indiana sports betting, a push for internet casinos is expected during the upcoming legislative session.

Rep. Ethan Manning told PlayIndiana.com that he will introduce the Indiana online casino bill early this month.

The iGaming bill would legalize online casinos to allow gamblers in Indiana to play real money casino games such as blackjack, roulette and poker from the comfort of their homes. Anyone of legal age would be able to gamble using their smartphone or computer.

Casinos and racinos would be allowed to offer internet casino games under the legislation. Each casino would pay $500,000 for their licenses, which renew each year for $50,000. They can also partner with three different brands.

The latest online casino bill includes online lottery. The idea is to legalize all forms of internet gambling in one bill rather than smaller ones over the course of several years.

According to PlayIndiana, revenue from online casinos is $993 million. In neighboring Michigan, online casinos generated $1.1 billion during its first year on the market in 2021.
