INDIANAPOLIS – Overall K-12 school enrollment is up this school year, but results are mixed for area school corporations.

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) today released data on school enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year.

According to the report, enrollment for Indiana’s public and accredited non-public schools has grown to 1.12 million students, up slightly from the previous school year.

The IDOE says enrollment growth was significantly driven a 5.25 percent increase in kindergarten enrollment compared to the 2020-2021 school year.

“With growing enrollment across all school types, today Indiana’s educators are focused on helping our students recover learning impacted by COVID-19 disruptions and building the foundational knowledge and skills to prepare them for a lifetime of future success,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education.

Enrollment numbers fluctuated between local school corporations from the 2020-21 school year and the 2021-22 school year. Enrollment calculations are based on a statewide count of students in attendance in an Indiana school on October 1.
