Indiana Congressman Greg Pence Calls House Inquiry A Dem "Power Grab"

The Democrat-controlled House has launched an impeachment inquiry into the president's phone call with the leader of Ukraine.

(Washington) - Indiana's representatives in Washington D.C. are split along party lines on the question of impeachment and what the phone call between President Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine really means.

The president’s July phone call with the president of Ukraine is at the heart of a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump.  Trump asked the Ukrainian leader to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who had some business dealings in Ukraine.  Trump also withheld nearly $400 million in U.S. aid to Ukraine but the money was subsequently released.

On Wednesday, House Democrats formally launched an inquiry into Trump’s call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump has called the allegation another “witch hunt.”

Indiana Republicans seem to be in agreeance. Unanimously, Indiana’s GOP delegation believes there is nothing in the call that is criminal or worthy of impeachment. That includes 6th District Congressman Greg Pence, who tweeted that the impeachment inquiry is a partisan power grab.

Southwest Ohio Congressman Steve Chabot, a Republican representing the state’s 1st District, also issued a statement condemning the impeachment talk.

Indiana's Democratic congressmen say the President needs to be held accountable, and add that there are more questions that need to be answered.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims it is clear that President Trump asked a foreign government to help his political campaign for re-election.

“The fact is that the President of the United States, in breach of his constitutional responsibilities, has asked a foreign government to help him in his political campaign at the expense of our national security,” said Pelosi.

Talking briefly with reporters at the Capitol this week, Pelosi said Trump has threatened U.S. national security and the security of American elections.

Pelosi said, “No one is above the law.”
