Work will continue on I-74's westbound lanes between Sunman and New Point.
(Batesville, Ind.) – The Interstate 74 reconstruction project between Sunman and New Point is entering its third and final phase.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says construction activity will start this month as crews continue a $61 million project to rebuild a 13-mile section of I-74 in northern Ripley County, southeast Franklin County and southwest Decatur County.
The third and final phase of work will include pavement replacement between interchanges at New Point and State Road 101 and new bridge superstructures at Little Laughery Creek and Western Creek.
Scheduled operations will require shifting of all I-74 traffic to the rebuilt eastbound lanes. A concrete barrier will separate one lane in each direction traffic, while westbound lanes are reconstructed.
The traffic shift is expected to start on or after Tuesday, March 26.
During reconstruction, the westbound Batesville Welcome Center at mile marker 151 will be closed.
INDOT officials expect all traffic to return to normal configuration by mid-to-late fall. Final cleanup and seeding may continue into Spring 2020.
