Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient to Give Speech at Huey Helicopter Dedication

Sgt. 1st Class Sammy Davis will also make stops at three local high schools.

(Aurora, Ind.) - Last Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of the Huey helicopter's arrival to Lesko Park in Aurora.

Local Vietnam Veterans worked for nearly three years to acquire the chopper and get it displayed along the Ohio Riverfront.

That hard work will be celebrated with a special dedication ceremony on Saturday, April 29 at Lesko Park. PG Gentrup tells Eagle Country 99.3 that Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. 1st Class Sammy Davis will give the dedication speech. He is Indiana's only living recipient of the highest military decoration.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.

Prior to that Huey helicopter rides will take place that morning. They will resume following the dedication ceremony from noon to 2:00 p.m. Gentrup says he expects the flights to sell out because seats are already limited.

Aside from the dedication ceremony, Sgt. Davis will make stops at Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun and South Dearborn high schools to speak to the student body.

He will be at Lawrenceburg on Thursday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. Sgt. Davis will then head to Rising Sun on Friday, April 28 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a trip to South Dearborn at 1:00 p.m.

Gentrup believes this could be Davis' last trip to the area for speaking engagements. He turns 77 in November.
