(Henryville, Ind.) - It took about a month, but students from Henryville Junior-Senior High School are finally back in class after their town was devastated by a tornado in early March.

Students returned to class on Monday at Mid America Science Park in Scottsburg, which has been set up as the site for temporary classrooms.

Signs, balloons and cheers from the people of Scott County welcomed those students returning to class for the first time since a tornado demolished their school more than a month ago.

Principal Troy Albert said he was excited to see the students again and get them back together.

“I really feel like if they are patient with the teachers and teachers are patient with the students, and the administration supports everybody we are going to be in a great situation to finish this school year,” Albert said.

Henryville High School was badly damaged in the March 2 EF4 tornado which tore a 50 mile path across southern Indinaa. The school won’t reopen until next fall.

Thirteen people were killed in the tornado outbreak that ripped through southern Indiana and several other states in early March.
