Harrison Fire Dept. Outlines Goals After Passage Of Levy Renewal

The top priority is maintaining shift staffing.

(Harrison, Oh.) – The Harrison Fire Department has laid out its goals after voters pass a $2.4 million Fire and EMS levy renewal.

The passage of the fire levy allows Harrison police and fire services to remain at current levels. The levy also raises more than $500,000 for Harrison public safety each year.

Tax revenues from the fire levy are expected to increase due to higher property tax values across the city.

An auditor estimated that the renewal of the existing $2.4 million fire levy would generate just over $601,000 yearly.

So how would that money be spent?

Harrison Fire’s top priority is to maintain shift staffing at 10 firefighters. Typical shift staffing is currently at eight firefighters.

Other goals include purchasing an ambulance, paramedic and EMS services equipment, building repairs and improvements and providing additional funds for training expenses.

Over the next five years, the fire department would also like to replace two aging ambulances and provide capital improvements for five-year plan needs.
