Gregg Begins Campaign For Governor

John Gregg

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Just days after the most recent election, John Gregg began his campaign for Indiana governor.

The former Indiana House Speaker made two announcements of his run on Saturday, one in his hometown of Sandborn and the other in downtown Indianapolis.

Gregg - Speaker of the House in Indiana from 1996 to 2002 - is widely considered a lock for the Democratic nomination in the May 2012 primary.

“Unfair trade deals have cost Indiana jobs, and education cuts have cost our children their future. As Governor, I’ll put Indiana businesses first and invest in education so that our children are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow,” Gregg said Saturday.

He is likely to meet Republican Congressman Mike Pence on the November 2012 ballot. Pence announced earlier this year he would not run in Indiana’s sixth district in hopes of succeeding fellow Republican Mitch Daniels for governor.

Gregg is now touring the entire state talking to voters. He will continue his kickoff tour this week in Fort Wayne, Muncie, Columbus, New Albany, and Evansville.
