Great Parks Embraces Day of Service on National Public Lands Day

Volunteers and Great Parks staff will pick up litter along the Great Miami River on Saturday.

(Hamilton County, Oh.) – Great Parks of Hamilton County is celebrating the 30th year of National Public Lands Day with a day of service.

Volunteers and Great Parks staff will pick up litter along the Great Miami River on Saturday, September 23 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Those interested in helping should gather at the Welch Property Barn at 8291 E. Miami River Road starting at 9:00 a.m.

National Public Lands Day was established in 1994 and has evolved into the largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. The day commemorates the connection between people and green space, inspires environmental stewardship and encourages the use of open space for education and recreation.

As the largest landholder in Hamilton County, Great Parks is an important regional steward of big lands, with holdings totaling more than 18,000 acres, or more than 28 square miles.

The great majority of these lands are preserved as undeveloped natural areas.

Great Parks also offers more than 84 miles of nature, shared-use, fitness, horse, and mountain bike trails throughout the county, plus 25 miles of frontage on four major rivers.

In celebration of National Public Lands Day on September 23, and Great Outdoors Weekend on September 23-24, no motor vehicle permit will be required for guests who drive into Great Parks destinations.
