Great Parks and Cohen Extend Holiday Lights Recycling Program

Residents in the area have four more weeks to drop off strands of broken, worn-out or unwanted holiday lights.

(Hamilton County, Oh.) - Great Parks and Cohen Recycling have extended this season’s holiday lights recycling program by an extra month, now continuing until February 28, 2025, in recognition of the fact that snow, ice and cold weather caused many people to delay removal of their outdoor lights for the season. The program was originally scheduled to end on January 31, 2025.

Residents in the area will now have four more weeks to drop off strands of broken, worn-out or unwanted holiday lights at six convenient Great Parks destinations:

• Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve – Ellenwood Nature Barn
• Glenwood Gardens - Gatehouse
• Miami Whitewater Forest – Visitor Center
• Sharon Woods – Sharon Centre
• Winton Woods – Winton Centre, front and side lobbies
• Woodland Mound – Breezy Point Pavilion.

Both LED and traditional string lights can be dropped in marked bins at these locations. Only lights and their wiring should be dropped off, not bags or boxes used to carry them, or other recyclable materials.

Cohen Recycling will recycle the materials, diverting hazardous eWaste from landfills and preventing toxic materials from entering soil and groundwater.

With more than 18,000 acres of land representing one-third of Hamilton County’s open space, Great Parks is a regional conservation leader. Together with Cohen Recycling, the two organizations teamed up through the first 11 years of the program to divert over 40 tons of holiday lights from the landfill.
