Gov. Requests More Storm Assistance

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Indiana’s governor is requesting more help from the federal government for counties affected by the March 2 tornadoes throughout southern Indiana.

Gov. Mitch Daniels requested public assistance from President Barack Obama for five counties including Clark, Jefferson, Scott, Ripley and Washington counties. The governor’s office says a sixth county, Warrick, could be submitted to the president later.

The president approved individual assistance for homeowners, renters and businesses in Clark, Jefferson, Ripley, Scott, Warrick and Washington counties. The public assistance varies in that it provides help for state and local governments and non-profit organizations which sustained damages in the storms.

If approved, those governments and non-profits would be eligible to apply for federal assistance to pay 75 percent of the approved cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities.
