Gov. Daniels To Sign Smoking Ban Bill

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana governor Mitch Daniels is signing three major pieces of legislation Monday.

 

Daniels is holding a signing ceremony at 11:00 a.m. sign the statewide smoking ban bill, House Enrolled Act 1149, into law.

 

The law stopping smoking in most public places will go into effect July 1. Bars, casinos, veterans clubs, and cigar bars will be exempt.

 

Daniels is also signing three bills on local government reform.  HEA 1005 addresses conflicts of interest and nepotism in city, county, and township government.

 

HEA 1002 allows for local government reduction. HEA 1003 calls for the elimination of commissions, boards and committees.

 

A number of lawmakers who supported each piece of legislation are expected to be in attendance.
