(Frankfort, Ky.) – A bill that would end Kentucky’s COVID-19 State of Emergency has been vetoed by Governor Andy Beshear.
Senate Joint Resolution 150 was sent to the governor’s desk last Friday after passing the House and Senate.
Beshear officially vetoed the bill on Wednesday, stating the end of the COVID-19 State of Emergency would cost the state millions of dollars in federal SNAP benefits.
“The only thing SJR 150 does is take food off the table of more than half-a-million hungry or food insecure Kentuckians, mainly children and seniors,” said Beshear. “My faith and values teach me that is simply wrong. I am vetoing SJR 150 and urging state legislators to not override.”
If the general assembly brings an override to a vote, they will need 51 votes in the House and 20 in the Senate to do so.
