Gov. Beshear Extends Statewide Mask Mandate Another 30 Days

The mask mandate has been extended every month since July.

(Frankfort, Ky.) – Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is extending the state’s mask mandate.

The governor announced Tuesday that the executive order is effective as of 5:00 p.m. on January 2 and will last for 30 days.

The extension of the mask mandate is not surprising as the executive order has been extended several times since it went into effect on July 9.

Under the mandate, all Kentuckians are required to wear face coverings in the following situations:

  • At any indoor public place or while waiting in line to enter the establishment.
  • While waiting for or riding on public transportation.
  • While in outdoor public spaces where a person cannot maintain a physical distance of six feet from all individuals who are not members of the person’s household.

There are certain persons that are exempt from wearing a face covering. A full list can be found here.

Failure to follow the mask mandate requirements could result in a loss of access to a business’ services or penalties as authorized by law.

In addition to the mask mandate extension, Gov. Beshear announced two new vaccine allocations, totaling 53,700 doses. The doses are expected the week of January 4 with 27,300 doses coming from Pfizer, while 26,400 doses will come from Moderna.

The governor is also urging safe New Year’s celebration.

“I ask every single Kentuckian to keep any New Year’s celebration small, preferably your own household or one more,” said Gov. Beshear. “Remember, going to a big party, hosting a big party or going to any gathering where you’re going to take your masks off will spread this virus at a time where Kentucky is doing better than most, but the virus is rampaging through the United States and we’re seeing record deaths just about everywhere.”
