(Seymour, Ind.) – A Franklin County man was seriously injured last week in a three-vehicle crash in Jackson County.

According to Indiana State Police – Versailles Post, a trooper observed a motorcycle driving erratically on Interstate 65 around 5:30 p.m. on August 25.

Other troopers in the area attempted to conduct a traffic stop due to a registration violation and driving behavior, just north of Seymour. When troopers activated their lights, the motorcyclist, later identified as Robert Pettry, 26, allegedly accelerated rapidly.

Moments later, Pettry attempted to pass a vehicle using the shoulder of the interstate, but his motorcycle collided with the left rear of the vehicle.

The impact caused Pettry to be ejected from the motorcycle, which continued to travel southbound where it was struck by a third vehicle before catching fire.

Troopers applied multiple tourniquets to Pettry due to traumatic injuries sustained. He was then airlifted to a Louisville area hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and toxicology tests are pending.
