(Boone County, Ky.) - A former Walton Verona High School teacher has been arrested and charged with Rape and Sodomy.

Boone County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 27-year-old Mollie Verkamp after a yearlong investigation into an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with an underage student.

In 2019, Verkamp was reported to detectives by the school district after learning that she was sending sexually explicit videos and text messages to an 18-year-old student.

During the investigation, Verkamp admitted to detectives she had previously taught at a high school outside of Boone County and had sent the same kind of sexually explicit messages to another student that was 17-years-old at that high school. Verkamp told detectives she was aware of the students age and that being a teacher at the same high school made her a person in a position of authority. Despite Verkamp's position of authority, she admitted that the relationship with the student evolved from sending and receiving messages to having sex with him at her home in Boone County.

At the time of arrest and during the 2019-2020 school year, Verkamp was not employed by any school district. Verkamp previously taught for three years.

Verkamp was indicted by a Boone County Grand Jury and charged with one count of Rape (Class D Felony) and one count of Sodomy (Class D Felony). She was arrested on an Indictment Warrant and is being held at the Boone County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond at 20%.
