Former Aurora City Councilman, Green Beret Passes Away

(Aurora, Ind.) – A former Aurora City Councilman, mayor, and Green Beret has passed away.

John Borgman died on Wednesday at the age of 91.

Borgman, an Aurora native, graduated from Aurora High School in 1950 and went on to earn a business management degree from Indiana University, where he played on the IU junior varsity basketball team.

In 1955, Borgman entered the United States Army and eventually became a Special Forces Green Beret. He served three tours in Vietnam, which included leading the last battalion size combat jump in 1968 with 500 men under his command. Borgman was awarded the Master Parachutist Badge, and Bronze Star Medal with “V” for Valor.

In the early 90’s, Borgman was elected to Aurora City Council and was later appointed mayor.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 4 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on 4th Street in Aurora. Funeral services will follow.

Contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or a Mass can be made in his memory.
