(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Charges have been filed against the man believed to be responsible for a robbery in Lawrenceburg.

Clinton C. Hulsey, 44, was charged in Dearborn County on August 13 with Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 2 Felony), Aggravated Battery (Level 3 Felony), and Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor).

The charges stem from a stabbing and robbery that occurred on August 11 at VP Racing Fuels gas station on Arch Street in Lawrenceburg.

According to Lawrenceburg Police, a store clerk was found with blood coming from his left arm as well as his face. The clerk stated that the suspect came into the station, grabbed him by the hair, stabbed him in the arm and then took cash from the register and ran out.

Hulsey was taken into custody on August 12, less than 24 hours after the incident.

Detectives from Lawrenceburg Police went to Hulsey’s place of employment in northern Kentucky and observed the black Jeep fitting the description seen on surveillance footage and learned the registration returned to Hulsey.

Hulsey allegedly told police that he had smoked methamphetamine on the day of August 11 and did not remember anything after work.

When detectives showed Hulsey surveillance photos from VP, he allegedly admitted that he was the person in the photos and that he had “messed up”.

Hulsey made his initial appearance in Dearborn County Court on Tuesday. Bond was set at $500,000 surety and $5,000 cash.

Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens expressed her thank you to the concerned citizens that alerted police to the incident. Deddens also thanked Lawrenceburg Police, Airport Police and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, who worked quickly to apprehend the suspect.
