Firefighters Save Dogs From Burning Home

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Two pooches can thank Rising Sun firefighters for their lives after a house fire in Ohio County Wednesday.

The Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department was called to the home at 8750 State Road 262 at about 5:30 p.m. The building was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters managed to save two dogs from inside the burning residence, said department Public Information Officer Nick Levi. A neighbor of the home was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after attempting to save the dogs.

No firefighters were injured. The residents were not home at the time of the blaze.

Levi said a cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious.

The Rising Sun Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Bear Branch and East Enterprise fire departments, Ohio County EMS, and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department.
