(Batesville, Ind.) - This summer’s second Kids Building Bikes Camp, conducted by Genesis: Pathways to Success and Nine13sports, took place this past week (July 5th- July 8th) at Liberty Park in Batesville, Indiana. A total of 8 students participated in the summer camp, which was a part of the initiative, A Summer of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, & Mathematics).

The four day, 12-hour crash course provided an experiential learning experience where students were taught about the history of bicycles, proper biking terminology, in depth mechanics, geometry skills, repair, and road safety. All in doing so, students further expanded upon their soft skills, specifically critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.

“It's hands-on learning that makes all the difference. You can google search and watch videos, but nothing compares to being able to teach the youth life-long skills like self-esteem, confidence, and teamwork,” said Matty Bennett, Director of Kids Building Bikes at Nine13sports.

After bicycles were constructed in Nine13sports’ mobile bike lab, students of Kids Building Bikes Camp concluded camp with a bike tour of downtown Batesville. Despite the continuous rain, the tour prevailed with stops along the way at Brum Woods and the Sky Color Rain Exhibit. The rain provided a great opportunity for students to apply their newfound knowledge by testing their road safety skills.

Bennett further stated, “It was a fast and furious four days, and we’re thrilled to see another successful Kids Building Bikes Camp in the books.”
