McLaughlin is a graduate of St. Xavier High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Master’s degree from Indiana University.

A member of St. Lawrence Church, McLaughlin serves on the Church Finance Committee. He is a YES Board Member and their President, on the local United Way Action Council, a member of the Lawrence Youth Grants Committee at the Dearborn Community Foundation, a Greendale Cemetery Board Member where he serves as Secretary/Treasurer, a Dearborn County Hospital Foundation Board Member, a Lion’s Club member, a Sons of the American Legion member, a United Way SEI Board member, a Past President of the Perpetual Federal Savings and Loan, and Past President of United Community Bank where he continues to serve on its Board.

McLaughlin was a recent recipient of the Dearborn Community Foundation’s Heart of Gold Award for Exceptional Volunteerism. Karen Snyder, Director of the United Way of Southeast Indiana, says “ (E.G.) is always there when you need him. He will help and support in any way….He’s also one of the nicest people I know.”

McLaughlin is involved in many more community activities. Our community would be a much different place without the support of E.G., his sister Mary Beth Hedrick, and his brother Mike McLaughlin, all of whom are following the example set by their parents, Tom and Betty McLaughlin.

It is with great pride that the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Foundation has inducted E. G. McLaughlin into its Legacy Society.
