(Walton, Ky.) - A driver who was allegedly drinking at the time of a double fatal accident last weekend has been charged.

Logan Ellis, of Nancy, Ky., was at the wheel when his car struck a utility pole on U.S. 25 early last Saturday morning.

Ellis’ two passengers Heather Stanley, 21, and Stacy Hopkins, 43, both of Dry Ridge, died in the crash as the vehicle split in half.

Ellis, 22, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Excessive speed was a contributing factor, accident investigators said.

On Monday, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies charged Ellis with wanton Murder, DUI, and driving without insurance. He turned himself in at the sheriff’s office.
