ETC Offers Parking Lot Hotspots To Public

Locations can be found around southeastern Indiana.

(Ripley and Dearborn Co., Ind.) - With students taking on eLearning and many employees working from home, the demand for internet access has grown immensely.

The Enhanced Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) and several local organizations have began to open 'parking lot' hotspots to provide the public with free internet access straight from your vehicle.

Currently, these six parking lots in the ETC service area have internet access:

  • Decatur County Fairgrounds
  • Versailles Church of Christ
  • Sunman Community Park
  • New Point Community Center
  • Batesville Bike Park
  • Batseville Liberty Park

Hotspot locations coming soon include St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon and St. Michael Church in Brookville. There could potentially be more to follow, depending on the need of the community.

“The coronavirus has created an increased demand for internet access,” said ETC Marketing Manager Anita Fledderman. “As more individuals are working from home and students are e-learning, these free internet-access locations are intended to help meet that demand. These hotspots should be particularly helpful for areas where internet access is lacking.”

These temporary hotspots are intended for use from the parking lots in vehicles only. The public is prohibited from entering any building.

To access internet on most devices, go to Settings, search for Wi-Fi options, and select ETC Complimentary Hotspot. All spots are open during daylight hours. Evening hours may vary by location.

ETC wishes to thank the Decatur County Fairgrounds, Decatur County REMC, Versailles Church of Christ, St. John Lutheran, Church in Napoleon, St. Michael Church in Brookville, and the New Point Community Center, as well as the area Parks and Rec offices for their cooperation in helping host these free hotspots.

Anyone with questions about a hotspot site should direct inquiries to ETC (866-ETC-4YOU).
