(Washington, D.C.) – The U.S. Supreme Court is upholding an anti-abortion law in Kentucky.
Republican Governor Matt Bevin signed a law in 2017 that requires doctors to describe an ultrasound while a pregnant woman hears the fetal heartbeat.
The ACLU challenged the law on behalf of the state’s lone abortion clinic, stating that the law has no medical basis and was designed to coerce a woman into opting out of having an abortion.
Supporters of the law say its important that pregnant women make informed decisions when considering an abortion.

Monday’s decision marked a win for Governor Matt Bevin during his last day in office. The inauguration for Governor-elect Andy Beshear happens Tuesday at the Kentucky Statehouse.
