(Dearborn County, Ind.) – A Guilford man has been charged with bribery in attempt to get out of a misdemeanor case.

Theodore J. Green, 25, was charged in Dearborn Superior Court II on Wednesday with Bribery (Level 5 felony), Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A misdemeanor) and Possession of Paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor).

Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens says the charges were filed after Green was observed giving $950 in cash to a Dearborn County Detective in an attempt to make a previously charged case “go away.”

Green allegedly contacted a detective on October 31 and offered $3,000 to make a case go away. A meeting was arranged on November 4, where Green gave the cash to the detective.

While being taken into custody, police say Green was found in possession of a glass smoking pipe and green plantlike material in his teeth. Green allegedly informed police that he had eaten synthetic marijuana, or “spice.”

If convicted on the bribery charge, Green faces one to six years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
