NKY Student Activist Earns Award For Substance Abuse Prevention

The announcement was made on Tuesday.

(Erlanger, Ky.) – A Saint Henry District High School senior has earned a prestigious award for taking an active role in youth substance abuse prevention.

On Tuesday, Prevention First announced Lillian Marino as the recipient of the Carolyn Ford-Griffith Youth of the Year Award.

The award is presented to a student from the tri-state region that has modeled a drug-free lifestyle and taken an active role in preventing substance abuse.

Marino has done just that by working with Prevention First for four years. During that time, Marino has helped with ten conferences.

Within her own school community, Marino is the President of Students Against Destructive Decisions, Mock Trial and Culinary Club. She is also a member of the Students Ambassadors Association, Freshman Welcoming Committee, Pep Club and Theatre Department.

As if that’s not enough, Marino is a 4-year Varsity Track & Field athlete that place 3rd at state.

She will continue to throw discus at the University of North Carolina, where she is being fast-tracked into the pre-law program with a double major in Speech and Communications and in Criminal Justice.
