Deputies: Alcohol, Speed Factors In Wreck

Both occupants of the vehicle were injured in the early morning crash.

(Ripley County, Ind.) - Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in a Ripley County car crash that put two people in the hospital.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office released information Thursday concerning the wreck which occurred at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5 on County Road 350 N. According to deputies, a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro was travelling west on the road near the intersection with County Road 225 E when it ran off the north side of the roadway. The vehicle collided head-on with trees.

The driver, 20-year-old Dillon A. Engel, of Batesville, and a passenger, 24-year-old Kyle E. Taylor, of Indianapolis, were injured. The were taken to Margaret Mary Health Hospital in Batesville with unknown injuries.

Engel was later transferred to UC Medical Center in Cincinnati.

Deputies said Taylor was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash is still under investigation.

Assisting the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Osgood Police Department, Indiana State Excise Police, Ripley County Medic, Ripley County EMS, Rescue 69, and Delaware Fire Department.
