(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office recently purchased two Dual-Purpose Canines to add to the K-9 Unit.

The K-9 handlers traveled to Barnesville, Georgia to purchase the dogs from the Arete’ Canine, a vendor that imports Police and Military Working Dogs from Europe.

The first new team is Deputy K-9 Handler Austin Jefferson and K-9 Rambo.

Rambo is a 16-month-old male, Belgian Malinois and German Shepard mix imported from Hungary.

The other new team is Deputy K-9 Handler Konner Jackson and K-9 Chief.

Chief is the same age and breed as Rambo, also hailing from Hungary.

The Canines and their Handlers will be trained in several disciplines including drug detection, tracking, trailing, article, and evidence searches, building and area searches, obedience and criminal apprehension.

Each dog and handler began their training on March 6 under the supervision of department trainer, Deputy K-9 Handler Josh Cochran.

On April 10, each team successfully passed certification standards in the area of drug detection.

The rest of their training is expected to be completed in the coming months.
