Deadline To Apply For Energy Assistance In Program Year 2020 Fast Approaching

In addition to the standard EAP benefit, a one-time payment of $350 is also available for Hoosiers financially impacted by COVID-19.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is reminding Hoosiers that this Friday, July 31, is last day to apply for energy assistance in Program Year 2020. Those impacted by COVID-19 will have the opportunity to receive the standard Energy Assistance Program (EAP) benefit and a one-time payment of $350.

“I want to encourage anyone that needs help paying their energy bill to contact their local service provider to see if they qualify,” said Jacob Sipe, Executive Director of IHCDA.

The EAP is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) called the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). IHCDA administers the program in Indiana and works with many local service providers to help over 100,000 households with the high cost of home energy.

Additionally, IHCDA was awarded $17 million from HHS to support individuals that have been financially impacted during the pandemic. The $350 benefit is available to new applicants and individuals that have received an energy assistance benefit during Program Year 2020.

Those that have received an EAP benefit will not have to reapply for the additional assistance. They should contact their local service provider to check eligibility.

For more information, visit eap.ihcda.in.gov or call 2-1-1 to speak with a local service provider.
