(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 Proactive Grant to James B. Wismann YES Home (Youth Encouragement Services, Inc.).

The grant was recommended by Foundation Board Member Dave Lusby as part of the Foundation’s annual program, through which each of the organization’s 15 volunteer board members recommends a $1,000 grant. The grants to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents are funded through Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

The YES Home, located in rural Dearborn County, is a residential group home for youth ages 13-18 that provides a structured, nurturing environment for abused, neglected, and abandoned children. The YES Home instills hope and empowerment in a safe environment, offering choice and respecting life experiences.

“YES Home for years has been near and dear to me because of my being in law enforcement,” said Lusby, a former two-term Dearborn County Sheriff. “I’ve learned how YES Home serves youth in our community that are most in need.”

Lusby also is a friend and former co-worker with Dave Wismann who also served two terms as sheriff. Wismann’s father, mother and family members were among a group of folks who played a major role in the development of YES Home, which just happens to be named for Dave Wismann’s father, James B. Wismann, also a former Dearborn County Sheriff.

“I know raising funds isn’t easy for an organization like this, so I thought this grant was a great way to help a bit,” said Lusby. “They do so much for young people and families in our community.
