(Brookville, Ind.) - For one of the worst crimes in southeast Indiana history, David Ison is likely to receive life in prison Wednesday.
The 46-year-old from Fayette County pleaded guilty last month to the murders of five people in Laurel in Franklin County.
The sentencing hearing begins at 9:00 a.m. in Franklin Circuit Court with the punishment to be announced by Judge J. Steven Cox.
Ison fatally shot Roy Napier, 50; his estranged wife Angela Napier, 47; their grown children Melissa Napier, 23, and Jacob Napier, 18; and family friend Henry X. Smith, 43, at two homes on Stipps Hill Road on September 25.
Detectives said the massacre was triggered when Ison found that Roy Napier had raised the price of prescription pills he was selling Ison by $2.
Franklin County Prosecutor Melvin Wilhelm decided in early February not to seek the death penalty against Ison. A couple weeks later the accused murderer pleaded guilty to the five murder charges he faced.
