(Dearborn County, Ind.) – Dangerous erosion of the earth beneath the pavement has forced the Dearborn County Highway Department to shut down two roads until further notice.

The closures were announced Wednesday. Salt Fork Road has been closed between Jackson Ridge Road and State Road 1. Union Ridge Road is closed between the 16642 and 17742 addresses.

“As of right now, we have closed the two roads for public safety,” said Dearborn County Highway Superintendent Tim Greive. “We are working very diligently to get all the information together, (i.e. costs, timeline, etc.) to fix the slips.”

Heavy rains over the past couple weeks have caused flooding. The water runoff may have contributed to or accelerated the road slips seen in Dearborn County.
