(Cross Plains, Ind.) - Per Ripley County EMA, the Cross Plains outdoor warning sirens are currently not functional.
Repairs are in progress; however, the system is not expected to be operational prior to the upcoming weather event, which could come as early as Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington says showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday afternoon and evening. Scattered severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing small hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.
Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert individuals who are outside and should never be your only method of receiving severe weather warnings.
Residents are strongly encouraged to have multiple ways to receive alerts, including:
- Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) enabled on your cell phone
- A NOAA Weather Radio
- A trusted weather app with notifications turned on
- Hyper-Reach emergency notifications
