Be aware, vehicles are once again traveling in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 between Aurora and Dillsboro.

(Aurora, Ind.) – A traffic lane switch on U.S. 50 in Aurora caught a motorist off guard, leading to a crash Wednesday morning.
Construction crews have been carrying out a road reconstruction project on U.S. 50 from Aurora to Dillsboro. Both directions of traffic had been shifted to the normally eastbound side of the highway.
The lane shift in the construction zone was altered between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, with the westbound traffic being placed back onto its usual side of the highway, albeit still reduced to one lane.
Motorist Craig Beckley told Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputies he was not aware that the westbound lane of U.S. 50 had reopened when he was involved in a crash just before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputies say Beckley, 66, of Dillsboro, failed to yield the right of way as he traveled onto U.S. 50 from Gatch Hill Road. He pulled into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Abigail Hamilton, 18, of Dillsboro.
Hamilton was transported to Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, deputies said.
Dillsboro Pplice Department and Aurora Fire and EMS assisted at the crash scene.
Other motorists contacted Eagle Country 99.3 Wednesday morning expressing worries that the new lane configuration would lead to wrecks.
“Someone already hit one of the barricades in guessing last night... Please ask people to use extra caution,” said Dixie Townsend.
